If your baby is colicky, spits-up, doesn't eat and/or sleep well then gripe water is a tried and true traditional home-remedy. Millions of women over the years have used gripe water to help their babies eat better, sleep better, and feel better. I have personally used this formula with our son. It not only settled his tummy but helped him get some much needed rest, not to mention cooking up this formula helps your house smell fantastic.
Dr. Lindsey's Gripe Water Formula:
1 to 2 Tbsp coarsely-ground Cardamon
1 to 2 Tbsp coarsely-ground Fennel
1 to 2 Tbsp coarsely-ground Aniseed
1 to 2 Tbsp coarsely-ground Cinnamon Bark
1 to 2 (1/4 inch thick) slices of Ginger
1 quart Water
3 pinches Camomile
1 pinch Peppermint
Add equal parts of cardamon, fennel, aniseed, cinnamon, (all coarsely ground with a mortar and pestle), and fresh ginger to 1 quart water. Cook at a low simmer for 30 minutes. Then remove from heat. Add 3 pinches of camomile and one pinch of peppermint then steep with lid on for 10 minutes. Cool and strain. If the infant will not take it alone, you can add sugar or even add this to the baby's milk or formula.
